AB area patients ask, are dental crowns strong

Calgary, AB area patients who are interested in tooth restorations are welcome to speak with Dr. Hanif Asaria about the options available to them. In many cases, dental crowns are used to restore teeth that are damaged or need to be repaired in one way or another. Dental crowns are incredibly popular in general and restorative dentistry, but patients still ask their dentist: are dental crowns strong?

Dental crowns are incredibly durable thanks to being made of strong porcelain materials. Crowns are most appropriate for:

  • Covering teeth that are permanently stained
  • Giving strength to a weak tooth that has undergoing root canal therapy, has a large filling, or that has been injured
  • Covering a dental implant to function as a false tooth

Most patients are appropriate candidates for dental crowns, and are welcome to ask our team if they are candidates for placement.

Process of obtaining a dental crown

A dental crown starts with an evaluation to determine candidacy. Then, the tooth is prepared. This requires that a substantial amount of enamel is shaved off of the natural tooth structure. Then, impressions are made and used to fabricate the porcelain restoration which is then bonded over the natural tooth. Patients enjoy their restorations for approximately ten years or longer with proper care and maintenance, both at home and during regular six-month recall visits with our team of professionals.

Dental crowns are a strong and durable option for tooth repair!
